HELEN MEANY



Helen Meany was born and raised in Canberra. Meany was the bass player for Sydney band Golden Rough. Since the release of their debut album, 'Twin Firs', in 1998 Golden Rough's reputation for melodious, intelligent, Australian flavoured music had won the band critical acclaim, and admirers worldwide. She recorded another two albums with the band: 'This Sad Paradise' (1999) and 'Provenance' (2002). Meany is also a writer whose debut novel Every Day is Gertie Day was a 2021 winner of Seizure’s Viva la Novella Prize. Her fiction has been published in three editions of the UTS Writers’ Anthology and performed live at Spineless Wonders’ Little Fictions events. She studied film and digital media at UNSW College of Fine Arts, Creative Writing at UTS and has worked as a writer for animation and gaming, a copywriter, music reviewer and film archivist.
