Critics described Cindy Ryan as one of Australia's premier songwriters when she emerged on the Sydney music scene in the late nineties with her indie band Stella One Eleven and their breakthrough album 'Mr Big Car'.
Stella released three albums, all to critical acclaim. The band received multiple ARIA nominations, had two top forty hits, had nine of their singles play listed on high rotation nationally, supported Powderfinger, The Whitlams, Something For Kate, George, and headlined many east coast and national tours.
Cindy Ryan stepped out on her own to bring us her stunning debut solo album, Love Hate Tattoo. Pulling together a band and production team from Sydney finest established and up and coming musicians, Cindy Ryan and the Universal Order sought to make a clean break from Stella One Eleven 's electro-pop stylings and create an album that would remain true to the organic process of songwriting and arrangement. Showcasing Cindys considerable skill, growth and maturity as a songwriter, Love Hate Tattoo offers a range of exquisitely crafted songs. From the foot stomping, guitar driven punch of Lay Down to the introspective simplicity of No Gun, Love Hate Tattoo is an involving, emotional journey that opens with the timeless, heartbreaking title track, travels some of lifes darker corridors, and leaves the listener wanting more with the beautiful Safe, Simple and True, a poignant duet featuring Front End Loaders Bow Campbell
