Cathy Atthow was the drummer for 80s Brisbane band, Who's Gerald founded by future Custard member David McCormack. She was recruited because McCormack wanted the similarity it created with The Go-Betweens who also had a female band member on this instrument. In 1988 Who's Gerald? released a single named "Wrestle Wrestle / Gerald Is Stumbling Away Upon The Highway Of Life" and had a track called "Pins And Needles" included on the 1988 'Youngblood' compilation.
After the demise of Who's Gerald? Cathy toured through SE Asia - Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and China- in a six-piece cover band playing three month contracts six nights a week until the economy crashed in 1997. She then moved to London with her husband and worked in the London office for the International Music Industry Conference, Midem, held in Cannes, France every January with over 10,000 industry delegates from over 90 countries attending from companies including Sony and Apple and hundreds of live performances in the Riviera city of Cannes. Upon returning to Australia in 2005, Cathy worked for Midem as their Australian Rep and attended Big Sound in the early years meeting with representatives from the Australian and NZ music industry. Cathy been performing in the same cover band since 2012 playing at corporate events. Now though, she is using electronic kits and singing lead vocals.
