Pat Purchase was born in Somerset England in 1942. She began singing whilst as a teenager and became popular with jazz audiences and musicians. Purchase arrived in Australia in 1963 with her husband, trumpeter Nigel Hunt and they decided to stay permanently. In November of that same year she took the opportunity of joining one her favourite bands, The Yarra Yarra New Orleans Jazz Band for concerts and dances. With that band she recorded a couple of EPs and an album 'The Yarra Yarra New Orleans Jazz Band With Pat Purchase – Spectacular! Yarra's'. In 1966 Purchase returned to the UK where she continued her career.
