HELEN BARNES

Helen Barnes was the daughter of Sid Barnes a member of Bradman's "Invincibles" 1948 cricket team. In the mid-sixties she joined Strings & Things as a bass player with friends who grew up together around Collaroy, on Sydney's northern beaches. After changing their name to The A-Sound they cooked up a pleasant pop-rock sound with The Seekers overtones and in early 1966 managed to cut a single for Festival Records, ''Talk About That''. They would probably be little remembered today were it not for their soon-to-be-famous vocalist, Doug Parkinson.
