SONJA PARKINSON

SONJA Parkinson's trombone had weathered many storms. It was first blown by owner Bill Howard in the Red Onions Jazz Band in the 1950s, and then by the Loved Ones when the global success of the Beatles killed the local jazz scene.

Later her dad bought it at a second-hand store and played in the Salvation Army Band before passing it down to her. She also played with the Salvos, but in 1996 she changed direction, dodging flying beer cans to add some brass spunk to cult punk band the Painters and Dockers. More recently, she has played with the Dili Allstars.
