KERRIE BOLTON


In the 90s Kerrie Bolton fronted Melbourne bands, The Cats Miaow and Hydroplane. She crossed over to opera in the early 2000s where she graduated at the University of Melbourne Conservatorium, Deakin University and the Victorian College of the Arts

She received numerous study and research scholarships and awards including the Mabel Kent Vocal Scholarship. As an undergraduate student Kerrie joined Opera Australia (Melbourne Chorus, covers, minor roles) and has continued to perform regularly with them, most recently being their 2014 season of Tosca. Kerrie has also been a member of Victorian Opera’s Chorus since the company’s inception in 2006 and will be performing in their 2015 production of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman under the baton of Richard Mills.

As a Soloist in Opera, Oratorio and Concert Kerrie’s professional repertoire includes over 100 performances of over 40 Oratorio including Durufle’s Requiem and Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb in her solo debut with Melbourne Chorale Symphonic Chorus (MSO Chorus) and as alto soloist in Tippet’s A Child of our time for Camberwell Chorale and Camerata Orchestra, conductor Douglas Heywood. Her operatic performances include Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Dorabella (Cosi fan tutti) and Giovanna (Rigoletto).

Over the past few years Kerrie has been invited to perform as guest artist with The Opera Studio Melbourne’s Gertrude Opera Company as The Stepmother (Phillip Glass’s The Juniper Tree), Larina (Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin), Mother (Menotti’s The Consul) and in various concerts and soirees. For Lyric Opera she has had the great pleasure of performing as Bianca (The rape of Lucretia), Mrs. Nolan (The Medium), Rita (La Verbena de la Paloma) and Queen Elizabeth 1st (Merry England).

She has toured extensively throughout Australia, Germany and Switzerland with companies including Co-Opera and Opera Australia’s Oz Opera School’s Company, performing roles including Third Lady, Third Sprite (The Magic Flute), Hansel, Witch, Sand Fairy, Mother (Hansel and Gretel), Carmen (title role) and various roles in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville.
