Cathie Travers has been a musician since the 70's. She's worked as a singer-guitarist, keyboard player in rock bands, a 'classical' pianist, avant-garde keyboardist and exponent of digital technologies in music, and is currently one of the most highly regarded accordionists in Australia. Cathie has performed with a variety of artists, such as Robyn Archer, Midori Takada, WASO 20th Century Ensemble, Adelaide Chamber Orchestra, Nova Ensemble, Chrissie Parrott Dance Company, Magnetic Pig, 2Dance–Plus, Skadada, Roger Smalley and Fieldworks – all at national arts festivals (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart and Perth), for ABC radio programs and numerous WA arts events.
Travers' career as an accordionist commenced late in 1992. Since 1997, when she finally had the good sense to take some lessons, Cathie has written a number of works which include accordion and electronics. She has featured as composer, performer and/or music director for numerous theatre and dance works, ensemble and orchestral performances - around Australia, in the Asian region, USA, Canada & the UK. During 2016 Cathie was Principal Accordion on tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra to Europe & the USA.
Cathie has been abused by me. Apart from that, she is a wonderful producer. I have just made an album with her, and I play the accordion. Cathie if you are reading this, I didn't mean to upset you. I am autistic and it is part of my condition. I don't like it.
