GERALDINE DOYLE


Irish singer and performer of comic songs and comedian. Born in 1948 she grew up in Dublin with her brother, the highly successful singer and performer Danny Doyle. He has performed and recorded with her in Australia and has made the choice to live abroad too, although in his case, he chose the USA.In Australia, Doyle quickly established herself as a quick-witted comic, becoming a beloved fixture on television with regular appearances on The Mike Walsh Show, Midday with Ray Martin, and the Kerri-Anne Kennerley Show.

Her sharp humour and engaging stage presence earned her seven Australian Entertainment Mo Awards, including 'Best Stand-up Comic in Australia' in the first year both male and female comics competed for the title. She had previously won awards for Best Female Comic and Best Versatile Performer.
Doyle also made history as the first female to host 'The Annual Premier’s Concert' at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. In 1987, she was the focus of an ABC special titled 'Funny Job For A Woman,' part of their 'A Big Country' TV series. Doyle’s career was marked by extensive tours across Australia, the US, and Canada, as well as headlining performances on cruise ships.

In 1990, Doyle published a book titled You Wouldn't Read About It! a collection of stories and anecdotes from her vibrant career. The performer was married to husband Paddy Fitzpatrick, who was also her manager for close to 50 years. She recorded on the Larrikin label. Geraldine Doyle died peacefully aged 76 in 2024 at her home on May 29, following a long battle with cancer.

  2. Superb comedienne with a beautiful voice and warm presence. Performed live with brother Danny at Hanging Rock in (I think) 1993 and the signed CD of Emigrant Eyes that I purchased on the day has been a family favourite ever since.

  4. Met Geraldine and her husband at their Newport home. Discussed all things Irish, Courtney Davis and Martin McMahon. I will never forget. Geraldine said to me, “You’re a breath of fresh air”.
